Environment Day, Wildlife
Day, Earth Day, World Water Day, World Conservation Day - every year, people
across the world celebrate various days throughout the year to raise awareness
about the environment, and urge people to go eco-friendly. What many don’t know is that
there is a day dedicated to the world’s more universal material - paper. World Paper Free Day is
an annual campaign organised by the Association for Information and Image
Management (AIIM) to draw attention to the current paperless technologies that
can help us conserve forest resources. It encourages further learning and the
use of expertise in the area of information and documentation in order to
minimize the illogical use of paper. World Paper Free Day used to
be celebrated on the fourth Thursday in October, but AIIM recently moved it to
a fixed date and from 2010, it is celebrated on November 6. On this day, businesses and
individuals are encouraged to cease using paper for one day in order to reduce
their dependency on paper. To support this initiative, Mobis India Limited, a
well-entrenched player in manufacturing high-quality and genuine automobile parts and accessories for
Hyundai Motors in
India, has also initiated a week-long 360-degree paper-free campaign from 1st –
6th Nov’2021 across all digital platforms. The idea
is to spread awareness on the excessive usage of paper in day to day life and
its adverse effects on our environment. #PledgeWithMobis #PaperlessForADay #PaperfreeDay Why is it important to go paperless? Paper is utilised on a daily
basis, whether at home for grocery lists, newspapers, school books, or at work
for making reports. But what one doesn’t know is that the production is paper
is a tough and lengthy process. It takes twice the energy used to produce a
plastic bag and also consumes a lot of water. The use of paper has increased
by 400% in the last four decades. Both in emerging and advanced nations,
deforestation has become a big issue. In addition, the production of paper
releases nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, and carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere, leading to pollution such as acid rain and greenhouse gases. As disposable paper has
become more inexpensive for the average person and the technologies have
developed, consumption has increased as well. As a result, demand and, of
course, trash has risen exponentially, contributing to paper pollution. What can we do? Paper is recyclable, but the
issue still remains, as not many follow the appropriate steps to recycle. To
create awareness, one must encourage people to make an effort to be consistent
and contribute to a greener environment by changing the way they manage their
personal wastes. Recycling a ton of paper
could save 20 trees, more than 26,000 litres of water, three cubic yards of
landfill space, and nearly 30 kilos of pollutants from entering the atmosphere.
We can save enough energy by recycling paper to power an average house for six
months. As a result, recycling is a critical step in reducing deforestation. It is possible to reduce the
number of trees cut down and utilised to create paper products by going
paperless. What is the significance of this? A single person goes through about
10,000 sheets of office paper every year on average. Around 8,333 sheets of
paper can be produced by a single tree. And every one of those trees might have
provided up to four people with a day's worth of oxygen. How can we celebrate World Paper Free Day? If you’re having trouble
deciding how to go completely paper-free, try taking small steps by following the reduce, reuse and recycle methods. ● Opt
for e-bills, digital receipts and refuse junk mail and newsletters to reduce
paper waste. ● Reuse
single-sided prints to make new prints, use excess paper to make notepads and
go creative by reusing newspaper as well as other used sheets of paper to gift
wrap. ● Use
recyclable paper products, visit recycling centres and also recycle paper to
create items like paper bags. Along with this, you can
join the initiative of Hyundai
Mobis to go paperless as they celebrate World Paper Free Day, with the
hashtag #PaperFreeWithMobis.
Through this initiative, they are creating awareness of the situation as well
as inspiring other businesses to reduce their consumption by imagining a
paper-free future. The campaign is created to remind and encourage all to go
paperless in the cause of protecting the environment. So this World Paper Free
Day, pledge with Mobis for a paperless world! One can find all the Hyundai Genuine Accessories
